As a mom of two energetic kiddos, I’m always on the lookout for fun and safe places to take them where they can burn off some energy and enjoy the great outdoors. Luckily, Orlando is packed with amazing public parks that cater to kids of all ages. Here are some of my absolute favorites!
1. Lake Eola Park
First on my list is Lake Eola Park. This gem is right in the heart of downtown Orlando. The lake itself is beautiful, and we often take a leisurely stroll around it. The kids love feeding the swans, and there’s a fantastic playground that keeps them entertained for hours. Next up is Bill Frederick Park at Turkey Lake. This park is huge—over 400 acres of fun! We love it because there’s something for everyone. The kids can explore the playground, but they can also go fishing or hiking on the trails. Last summer, we spent an entire day there, and my son, Max, caught his first fish! It was such a proud moment for us. Plus, there are pavilions where you can grill out, making it perfect for family gatherings.
3. Harry P. Leu Gardens
If you’re looking for something a little different, Harry P. Leu Gardens is a must-visit. This isn’t your typical park; it’s a beautiful botanical garden that feels like a magical escape. The gardens are stunning, and there’s a cute little playground for the kids. I love taking my kids here because they can run around and explore while also learning about different plants. The other day, we stumbled upon a butterfly garden, and the kids were fascinated by the colorful butterflies fluttering all around!
4. Mead Botanical Garden
Another favorite is Mead Botanical Garden. It’s not only peaceful but also has a fantastic nature-themed playground. The best part? It’s free! My kids adore climbing on the play structures and running through the trails. There are often community events and nature programs that are great for kids. One weekend, we joined a guided nature walk, and the kids were thrilled to see a family of deer. It was a little slice of magic right in the middle of the city!
5. Central Park in Winter Park
Lastly, I have to mention Central Park in Winter Park. This park has everything—a playground, picnic areas, and even a scenic lake. It’s a perfect spot for family outings. We often come here to enjoy a Saturday afternoon, and the kids love running around the open fields. Plus, there are often fun events like outdoor movies and concerts. One time, we packed a picnic and ended up joining a spontaneous game of frisbee with some other families. It turned into a wonderful community moment!
