3 Easy Steps to Managing Your Day

Most days it feels as though there are just not enough hours in the day. Woman, Wife, Mother + the millions of other roles and hats we wear on a daily basis. It’s hard to find time for yourself, never mind all of the other responsibilities that lay on our plate. I reached out to my good friend, Tia Crockett to share some pointers on how she makes it happen every day. Wife of 12 years, mother of two boys (7 and 4), teacher by profession, entrepreneur, empowerment specialist, wellness and confidence coach and a  leader of a traveling gospel music group known as KINGDOM.  She also hosts Facebook Live devotional/motivational sessions daily at 7:30 a.m. (links at the end of the post). I’m  an entrepreneur, wife, mommy, career woman, and confidant to many.  I know that time really flies when you’re having fun! Then again time seems to fly when you need it most. As I typed that last sentence, I paused to think about the basket of clothes in my room that needs folding, the meal prep and lunches that need to be packed for the week, and the fact that I sure would like to find time to go out on the town with that sexy husband of mine (okay Mrs. Crockett bring it back in girl).

All of these things are important to myself, and more than likely you as well.  So, how do we manage not skipping out on any of it?  Why does it all seem so tricky at times and why can’t we just clone ourselves? Time management and prioritizing are skills that tend to elude most. They are skills that have to be consistently and intentionally pursued.

Do you find yourself struggling through your everyday routine, wondering how will it all get done? Do you start each day with your mind racing about everything that must be accomplished before your feet ever hit the floor? Do you simply discover that at the end of the day you usually have to look back and say, “Where did the time go”? If you’ve answered yes to one or more of these questions, then we have identified that this truth is your rescue today! The truth that boldly states, “Time management and prioritizing are as simple as we make them and right at our finger tips!”

3 Easy Steps to Managing Your Day!

Step 1: Block Times in Your Day

Let’s say you have what seems to be a full plate; don’t we all. Step back and look at your typical day from start to finish. It may look like rise, rush, rant, rave, react. Then return home, reset, and repeat. Let’s change this intentionally.  As you look over that day give yourself specific amounts of allotted time for each task you have. For example:

7:00 a.m. –  8:00 a.m. – Meditation, devotion, and prayer

8:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. – Tackle you top priority task. You can break down the task in that block of  time to even shorter time limits per task. Be specific.

10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. –  Shift into a new set of tasks or into a task that did not get done the day before, but must be done before weeks end.

12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. – Treat yourself to lunch

You get the point right?


After trying out the first step, you may have realized we need to back it up a bit. Be clear on what’s most important in your day and block accordingly. What makes your life run smoothly. What bothers you most when its undone?  Your personal values and ideals play a major part here.

Step 3: Seek HELP

What is your top priority? What can wait? What can be done by others? It’s time to let the entire family help out. They will be great at it! List it out and then talk it out with those that will be involved with the new changes. Your family may want to know that there is a new Sheriff in town! Delegate responsibilities and set boundaries. Follow through with all incentives and disciplinary actions attached to task.

Final Tips: Small kids can still help with small tasks. For the sake of your peace, everything does not have to be done exactly how you would do it. Everything does not have to be accomplished today, so stick to your time blocks. Follow these steps and watch your life become easier!

I guess we all know and see that time waits for no-one. Although this may be true its not a death sentence to your happiness or plans. I am confident that tomorrow you’re totally going to rock it out and have a few minutes to enjoy a hot cup of tea and  a few scones. However, start by applying the three steps above. Block time. Prioritize. Seek help. This could ensure you a more successful and peaceful day. Walk in your Mommy power!
